Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. – Matthew 11:28-30
This last Thursday we had a time of rest for the missionaries and Pastor Carlos and his family. We got to visit a farm and everyone was refreshed from the Lord. The outing also allowed the group to rest physically a needed thing for the hardworking team! Check out some of the photos!
The men where able to go to Don Arsenio's Farm today. Don Arsenio is the grandfather of Odonnel which is one of the youth center kids. He has the gift of hospitality and one of his common sayings is "my house is your house." He also jokes that because it is your house you can pay the taxes! And after that he says, "Really the house is not yours but God's so He can pay the taxes! He is a funny guy and the men had a blessed time there. From playing checkers and talking about their lives the time is spent in fellowship. This trip we went horse back riding, went swimming below a waterfall, fishing, and cooked lunch for the men and the house. It was a blessed time and we thank God for it. We also pray that God will use these times to help the brothers to grow closer in the Lord. Pray for the growth of the brother's that went: Don Lorenzo's (Nubia's Dad), Vladamir a new disciple, and Diego. Also continue to pray for Juan Antonio that God would continue to help him grow in Jesus!
Youth center was fun today. We took the volleyball net to the basketball court in the park and played in the afternoon. The youth of the neighborhood were able to learn about God or Adonai. Which is God's name for Lord. I talked to them about how God is Lord over all things but the question to them was if God was their Lord. Were they submitted to God. It gave many something to think about and I'm sure that God will bring the fruit out of it. Pray for those youth in the park that have made other things their Lord, whether it be drugs, friends, family, careers anything that has been placed before God in their lives.
Also keep in prayer Vladamir he just started discipleship classes. Pray for his maturity as a Christian and that the Holy Spirit would root out anything unpleasing in his life. Also continue to pray for Juan Antonio who is in his third week of discipleship and is growing in his walk, pray that he would be overflowed with the Spirit and he would continue to mature in his walk with Jesus. Thanks for all your prayers and support!
Praise Report: I've been praying for the electric bill as it was overdue and today we got the money to pay it thank you Jesus! Thanks again for partnering with us to help share God's word and keep God's word flowing through the Radio Station and Church!
“Drink water from your own cistern,
And running water from your own well.” Proverbs 5:15
Although we don’t have our own running well we do have a cistern which is a well that doesn’t have a spring yet. And although we don’t drink from that water because it is dirty we are moving toward cleaning it up and digging so the cistern will become a well.
In proverbs the advice given is to have your own water. In the states this is very hard because all of the water rights are usually bought up. Here in Nueva Guinea it is an option to have your own water. The point in the proverb is that God wants us to be blessed. And in proverbs we are given some sound advice. Having your own water has its advantages just like having your own electricity would have its own advantages as well. We are currently praying for this to become a reality.
A team from CC San Gabriel Valley came to visit us, they just left here on the 24th of July. While they were here they we’re a real blessing to the local church, to the radio, and to the missionaries. They got a whole lot accomplished fixing a buzz that was on the radio station. They were also able to improve the sound in the church another big blessing, adding upon improvements that the team from Rhode Island and Connecticut recently made. They also blessed the ministry here with an AC for the Radio station that runs on less electricity which is a huge help because of the rising cost of electricity here in Nicaragua. We are currently looking into putting in some wind turbines to be able to power the radio station. With the wind turbines we’d be able to power the radio station and cut down on a monthly electrical bill of U$700. To be able to do this we would need help financially. The project would include getting Pastor Leon down here from San Gabriel Valley to set the wind turbines up and the materials for the wind turbines, which he offered to do for free. Prayerfully consider making this lasting impact. This investment will not only affect the church, and town of Nueva Guinea for a month, but will have a lasting affect for years to come. This project would allow for the radio station to be self sufficient and remain commercial free to the town and surrounding colonies who are daily blessed by it.
Danilo is a brother in the church that went through the bible college with Pastor Leon. He has a farm we went to visit him for the day. He supports the radio station. One time he sold one of his cows to give to the church. When this last team came from San Gabriel Valley we had a lot of grass to cut and there was no weed wacker! To cut everything by hand with a machete takes a few days so Danilo offered us his weed wacker. So we borrowed it for the day and returned it. On our return we brought them snacks and spent some time helping them translate some work manuals to English and we stayed talking about the radio and what God was doing. It was a great time of refreshment and a blessing for all!
This last month Hector, Angela, Pastor Carlos, and Nubia all took a trip into Managua to get some errands done. Angela is in the process of getting her new ID that was stolen. Pastor Carlos is getting his passport so that he'll be able to go to Calvary conferences which is a crucial refreshment for him, and I am hoping to get my 5 year residency card. So we all went in getting our errands done and looking to have fun on the way here is a picture that we took after lunch at the mall, click "like" if you think its funny!
The church has been really motivated here by Nubia in that she is fulfilling the great commission and going out to make disciples of all nations. Here is a video of the church. Pray that they would continues to be part of missionary work as we are having a Karaoke night this Saturday for missions! Praise God that we can serve the Lord in so many ways! Not every one is called to be a missionary in a foreign land but all can take part in the work somehow. Through prayers, support, and willing hands we can work together as one body in Jesus.
Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
Nicaraguan Father's day fell on the 24th of June this month so we had a celebration with the church. The verse for the devotional in Isaiah speaks of a prophecy of the coming of Jesus long before his arrival. It speaks of Jesus as God and Father. We see that God as a Father will have dominion. So we taught them that they should also have dominion over their house and take responsibility for the spiritual welfare of the family. We see that God is called Wonderful or Marvelous showing the miracle nature of God and told them how God wanted to work miracles in their family as well. We taught them that they we’re not alone in their decisions because God was Counselor and could council them. We taught them that God was mighty, valiant, and powerful and He wanted them to be courageous for their families as well. They could fight the devil and he would flee as they walked in the Spirit and in the armour of God in Ephesians 6. We taught that God the Father would always be there for them.
Many of the kids and youth don’t have fathers or their fathers don’t live in their house and are far away. As Christ is head of the church, the father must be the spiritual leader of the household and without which the family will suffer much.
Pray for the kids and youth that don’t have father’s. Pray for the fathers that are part of our church that they would teach their kids about God.
This last week has been a blessing for the church here as they have been able to take part in Missions. Just as you can have the joy in taking part of missions here in Nueva Guinea the brothers and sisters here have had the joy to take part in sending Nubia to Africa. God bless you guys and I pray that continues to provide for all your needs according to His riches and glory.
I love soccer! And we're getting ready for a soccer tournament tomorrow. The whole town of Nueva Guinea is invited to come. We will also have food and clothes to sell. We're fundraising for Nubia's Africa trip. Pray that the people come out and that it doesn't rain! We'll be starting at 9am!
Have you ever came across someone and said, "they're crazy!" Usually there are levels of crazy. Today I found an old lady holding a boom box that didn't work up to her ear and she was dancing salsa in the street by herself. Amusing, but also got me to pray for her. A lot of people are crazy. Maybe they don't walk around dancing in the street to music, but there are different forms of crazy. I think it kind of crazy to not live for God, but people do it all the time. Pray for us that we'd be crazy for God in a good way and we could influence other to also be that way!
Greg - Out
Here in Nueva Guinea Nicaragua Radio Calvario, our Radio Station is the only radio station here that runs 24 hours a day. The reason that none of the other radio stations run 24 hours a day is because the power goes out a lot. Without power it is hard to run a radio station. God has provided us here with a generator to run the Radio Station when the power is out and has been faithful to keep the Radio Station going even when the power is out so all the taxi drivers and cars can still listen to the radio. When the power goes it it can cost us about U$50 to refill the tank on the generator a price well worth feeding the town with the word of God. Pray for God’s continual provision. For a small roof to cover the Generator when it rains – Cost is U$80.
If you’d like to give toward this you can donate to the Radio Station click on the donate section. We thank you for your faithful support in keeping the Radio Station going and reaching the lost for Christ.
Another prayer request is for the radio station to be available online. I already have requests for this from missionaries in Senegal Africa whose 1st language is Spanish and they are there ministering to Muslims. So keep it in prayer.
Different
Being in a different culture is challenging at times. The American way is not always the way that everyone else does it. Anyway, there are 3 Americas: North, Central, and South. We live down in Central America here in Nueva Guinea. Coming from the states you come to Nicaragua expecting certain things as normal. Things like power, water, and your local burger joint are seen as normal in the states. In Nicaragua there isn’t always power, or water, and there are no burger joints. There is no home depot. So you need to go to the hardware store, order things from Managua, then go to the lumber yard, or maybe even a farm to get your wood. Fabricated doors are not so common; most things are done by local carpenters. The way of life is different and simpler. Most people here go to bed at 9 pm and then are up at 4 am. They do their washing in the morning by hand and then put up their clothes on the line and when the rain comes they run out side to pull down their clothes before everything gets soaked. Most people here don’t really eat much meat perhaps because it is so expensive for them and they take care of their own chickens and livestock.
Going to the country here is like going to the Wild West. In the states you go to visit a farm in the country. Here you start in a farm and then go to the country, which is a place where everything works of wells possibly no electricity and pretty much everyone has a horse and works with animals, an environment much different from the states.
Knowing there are so many differences makes ministering to people more challenging but also more exciting. Jesus, however calls us to change what we do normally so that some might be saved. Be in prayer for us and for the finances as we minister to the Nicaraguan people and that God would help us to equip the Nicaraguans to make and be disciples.
Hi, I realized that I have been giving you guys updates and everything but you don’t really know much about me. I grew up in Monrovia California and went through several churches. I knew there was a God but didn’t know that I could know him personally until I started to seek Him. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with your whole heart says Jeremiah 29:13. I tried to do good in my own effort and found that I failed constantly. So after going through the Lutheran and Catholic Church, in the Catholic church I started to really seek God and his word. During this time I was introduced to Jesus as my personal Lord and Savior as a visitor to Calvary Chapel when I was 23 now I am 30 years old. God has now shown me there is power in His spirit and by walking in the Spirit we can be more than conquerors. I have been here in Nicaragua now for 5 years and look forward to what God has for the ministry here and for my life.
Personal Verse:
Trust in the Lord lean not on your own understanding in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths. Proverbs 3:5-7
Pastor Carlos and his family are living with his mom in a old house. The roof leaks all over the place, and they are in dire need of help to replace it and eventually move out of that house to a new one. Keep them in prayer and pray about giving to help them out.
In Jesus,
Greg
God provided for the family! Watch the video to the right to see what God did!
Time, something that is so precious, a real treasure. The word says that where your treasure is than that is where your heart will be. As God has had me look at my life I see that one of the most precious things that we can give to God and others is our time. When we really look at it the things we spend the most time on are the things that we love. It is time that the majority of our time is spent on knowing God and spreading his word. Letting people know that God cares for them that we care for them. Today the youth and I went to the market and talked with the shoe shiners about Jesus. One of them did not know the story of Jesus so we told it to him and got him thinking. His friend had once received Jesus but had fallen away so we told him how he could come back to the Lord and God was waiting for him. He will be coming by the church tonight to receive his bible. Pray for those in Nueva Guinea that they would take time to know God as God has taken the time to know us.
A mission to the peoples of Nicaragua.
